Modern-day travellers by road from Reykjavík to Akureyri or north-west Iceland will likely be familiar with Viðimýri, a small cluster of well-preserved old Icelandic houses close to the main highway. The picture on the left, below, was painted by Johannes Klein in 1898, while the photograph on the right, taken in 1975, shows the turf roof of the church at Viðimýri.
